in 2011, julia thompson (dj black b1tch) gave me a tdk sa90 tape of a spontaneous live jam by insync recorded in her flat in forest hill, south london in march 1991. she had found it in a drawer when clearing out stuff. she gave it to me to listen to simply thinking i might be interested in hearing it. of course i was, particularly because the date on the tape immediately told me that the session was recorded more than a year before the release of insyncs debut, the seminal storm on irdial discs.

is it purposely ironic that guysfromneighbourhood are releasing on a label thats named after a part of east london thats as gentrified as it is dishevelled? speech less is whats been delivered and its a popping, deeply dubby and smooth production thats made for the dusk of a berlin afternoon thats becoming evening. argentine producer nacho bolognani beefs up the original with something more solidified (youll find yourself dancing to the bassline not the beats), while matt rich delivers more of a reduction than remix. a strong debut release.

london/venezuela production duo juan laya & jorge montiel aka los charlys orchestra take influences from salsoul, fania, donna summer, cerrone, herbie hancock and even jamiroquay and blend them with their very unique style of production in order to deliver their latest anthem of neo latin disco. after a few months of experimentation across different sounds los charlys are back into their main arena with an outstanding new single entitle everlasting love. los charlys orchestra were first known by their initial disco/funk period and more recently by their infectious latin/funk sound, which has been buzzing all around the place for the past couple of years. this new single expresses a cross road in between the two periods of lco bringing up a new perspective for the future of this outfit.

back in the day, there was one artist that stood out in the underground, this person was admired and respected worldwide, his cuts we re played from paris, london, nyc to chicago & back again, he was - olivier portal aka playin 4 the city. this year, 2014 - playin 4 the city is back, 3 brand new tracks released on the deeply respected us label - plastik people. side a delivers two soulful edged tracks with a reprise at the start of a1 which keeps the roots of p4tc from back in the day - both tracks include live bass by slikk tim. side b *good groove* is a black & white track, it has the feel of the early bouge & shuffle track that came out on olivier s straight up label, deep & groovy elements, 16 bit samples & keeping it four to the floor. good groove is sure to be a classic, one for the true heads & the p4tc collective.

enzo siragusa and alexkid s kilimanjaro project first appeared on fuse london in late 2013 and offered a refreshing exploration of house music informed by jungle s production style. this summer the duo are set to reunite as they continue to join the dots between house and jungle with the kilimanjaro sound ep , the latest installment of their much-hyped project.

hardmoon london continues its new found adventure by releasing another piece of the impure sound it thrives on. this time bringing in chicago legend: gene hunt. hunt takes a look back into the history books of chicago with some no-nonsense gritty acid tracks that have been designed to shatter teeth and jaws alike.

at some point in 2013, friendly fires, andrew weatherall and timothy j fairplay (aka the asphodells), convened in an east london pub to discuss collaborating on new music together. the plan was to produce music that came from a place outside of their respective usual musical styles - a loose, open-ended process embarked upon for the pure joy of experimentation and collaboration rather than a specific end goal. the collaboration came on the back of two hugely successful friendly fires albums - 2008s debut friendly fires and 2011s follow up pala - and an acclaimed debut album from the asphodells in 2013s ruled by passion destroyed by lust, the latest in a long line of classic releases from andrew weatherall’s own rotters golf club label. the result is *before your eyes* and *velo* - two brand new tracks that take close to ten minutes each to reveal their full hypnotic glory. the tracks will be released as a aa-sided single on translucent, orange colored 12 inch vinyl and will be the inaugural release on friendly fires own telophase label.
